Here are a few of the most common questions asked by our P.O.C. candidates:

What are the Admissions Requirements

In order to be considered for full acceptance you must meet certain measurables.  Central students are to have a composite score of at least 45 to be considered for full admittance.  A composite score is your GPA multiplied by your ACT (2150 composite score if you've taken the SAT).  A composite score that does not total 45 may be considered for probationary or conditional admittance.  Other official documents are required prior to enrollment.

What happens I am not Pell eligible?

Students who are eligible for partial Pell are still eligible for the P.O.C. even if you are eligible to recieve as little as $1.  Students who are eligible to receive a portion of the federal Pell program can pay the difference ($5730 - your Pell award) and still be in the program.

If you are not eligible to receive any federal Pell money, often times we can find creative ways to meet your financial needs.  Don't give up, ask your counselor if there are other ways that we can help!

If I decide to take out loans, am I still eligible for the Central Certainty or other institutional aid?

P.O.C. students are not eligible for the "Central Certainty" program or as often times the amount of money that the college pays to get you into the program exceeds the total value of your loans.  Institutional aid is also not available and any outside scholarships that you recieve (that exceeds your balance + course fees an books) is to be given to the college.

Can I play a sport as a P.O.C. student?

Yes you can, but please bear in mind that if you are a student athlete you are still required to work between 15-20 each week and those hours can not be rolled over from week to week.  In other words, if you only work 10 hours one week, you can't work 20-25 the following week.  It will be important to plan your schedule around your classes and your work.

04

What happens if my GPA drops below 3.0 or I am no longer Pell eligible?

If your GPA drops below a 3.0 you have a 1 semester opportunity to show progress towards that 3.0 GPA.  Two consecutive semesters under 3.0 and you may lose the benefit of the grant.  If you are no longer Pell eligible we will work with you through our traditional scholarship offerings to provide for your scholarship needs.

What if I choose not to have 80% of my check withheld and applied to my bill?

Withholding 80% of your check is our suggestion to ensure that your bill at the end of each semester is minimal if not covered entirely.  If you don't have 80% withheld then you will be responsible to cover the difference on your bill.  The decision on how much to withhold is up to you.

What kind of jobs are available?

We do our best to try to match students up with a job that will help them in their career of choice, however, most of the jobs that are readily available in your first year, are typically in maintenance and/or food service.  Some office positions may also be available.

How many hours do I have to work and how many can I work?

There is a limit to the number of hours that you can work because we want to give you every opportunity to enjoy a typical Central Christian College experience.  We have set a range of a minimum of 15 hours and a maximum of 20.  If you work less than the minimum 15 or choose to not return 80% of your check to the college then the likelihood of having a balance on your bill at the end of the semester increases.
